A free community race for cross-country skiers of all ability levels
Results
Come out to meet your fellow skiers and support the xc skiing community. The race is free and any proceeds from donations (after accounting for race expenses) will be utilized to support MBNA’s ongoing grooming efforts and youth skiing.
We will offer two race courses this year - 5 km and 10 km - with a classic and a freestyle event for both distances. Depending on the number of participants, we will either have a mass start at 10 a.m. or start participants in waves 5-10 minutes apart. The starting line will be in the Lower Meadow, so please give yourself plenty of time to ski from the trailhead to the start (approximately ½ mile).
Note that while the event is free, parking is not! The trails and parking are within the Medicine Bow National Forest and an annual parking pass or $5 day-use pass is required to park at the Tie City trailhead.
We encourage you to register for this race online to simplify race-day logistics. On-line registration will close at 5 pm on Friday, January 27. Race day registration will be available in the Lower Meadow from 8:30 – 9:40 a.m. Racers must be checked in by 9:40 a.m. to receive a bib. Those who arrive later will be welcome to participate, but will not receive an official time or be included in the race results.

Jay Norton (1961-2022)
Avid backcountry and cross-country skier. He grew up on a prairie farm in NE Iowa where he and his dad would groom trails for classic skiing. He loved skiing at Happy Jack and in the Snowies. His last accomplishment before he died was participating in the American Birkebeiner ski race. This year would have been his 15th Birkie. He was so proud of the fact that he would be starting in the second wave in 2023.
