Steps in Grooming
Grooming Patterns
Little or no New Snow:
With New Snow: When there is new snow, 2 groomers will work together to roll the trails in tandem, with the second groomer’s roller overlapping that of the first groomer. The inner loops will be rolled first, followed by the outer loops.
Classic Tracks: After the initial Skate lane pass is completed for the inner and outer loops, at least one groomer will work on classic tracks when conditions permit. The top grooming priority for classic tracks is for a loop of Campground, Meadow, Upper UW, Phil's and on out to the Summit Junction and back.
- 1. In the early season rollers are used to pack snow on the trails. This creates a base that can be effectively groomed, and that lasts longer into the spring.
- 2. Rollers are also used after each new snowfall to pack the new snow in to the base. This typically requires two passes with the roller over each trail, as described below.
- 3. Once there is a sufficient base, the Ginzu Groomer is used to set the skate lane. This grooming helps to even out the packed snow surface to provide a skiable surface for skating.
- 4. Finally, the Ginzu Groomer is used to set classic track on trails with sufficient snow. Classic tracks are typically set on one edge or the other of the groomed trail, although they may be set more centrally for special events such as classic races.
